Finding the motivation to lose weight can be demanding. It can sometimes be downright annoying. However, it is possible to find that motivation and to keep going. We are always trying to lose weight for our summer bikini or trunks. It is the time of the year when you generally wear the least. Everybody can see more of you than they normally see on a daily basis.

Why should you restrict yourself to the summer to lose weight?

Stop restricting your timetable to the summer months. Visualise your new body – think about how much you want to lose and how your body will look.

This is a lifestyle change not a change for a few months. It is great if you can lose those pounds for your summer holiday. But would it not be even better if you could keep the weight off and feel fit and healthy throughout the year?

How can we find that motivation to help us through the year?

The Science Behind Motivation

According to Kou Murayama, the Head of the Motivation Science lab at the University of Reading, “motivation is important in almost every aspect of human behavior.”

The Science Behind Motivation

In his science brief, The Science of Motivation, he further explains that they have found evidence that rewards and motivation are connected.

He wrote that “rewards are effective in motivating people and enhancing learning, and this is supported by a neural link between the motivation (reward) and memory systems in the brain.”

Bearing this in mind, let’s look at motivational rewards and how you can use them to lose weight.

Setting Specific Goals And Rewards – Motivate Yourself To Lose Weight

Events

An anniversary, a birthday, a christening, a family party or a wedding. These are just a few examples of events you may need to attend.

Use one of these events as your reward day. Do not view it as the deadline for you to lose weight. This will be the day you will reveal the new you. Keep this positive mindset. It will guide you in a forward-thinking attitude to achieve your goal.

Special Items Of Clothes

This is a very old idea when you are losing weight, but it is still effective. You have seen a beautiful trouser suit or dress in your favourite shop. You were so excited, you went and tried it on. However, you ended up being very disappointed when you found it was too tight for you. Sound familiar?

This is going to be your reward item. Buy it!

But this time it is not going to end up in the back of your wardrobe with the label still attached 😉 When you achieve your weight loss this will be your reward. You can put it on and remember that person who struggled to get in it. You will be able to embrace the new healthier you.

Accountability Coach

Think about using an Accountability Coach. You can use your own programme to lose weight.

But having a set meeting each week with an Accountability Coach can keep you on track. You are in control of your own destiny but support can come in many different ways. Having a coach can help you monitor your progress and think about things in a different way.

Motivation To Lose Weight – How To Get Started

Try And Stop Me
  • So, before starting any diet or exercise programme to lose weight, make sure that you speak with your doctor so they can approve it.
  • Next, take a pen and paper and write down how many kilos / pounds / stones you would like to lose. Also, detail the time duration.
  • Place this piece of paper in a place that you will see every day. e.g. on the fridge door, on a mirror, or use it as a bookmark…get inspired and think of places where you can put it. But ensure that you will see it every day without fail.
  • Once you know the amount you want to lose and the timeframe you have to achieve this, there is only one thing left to do… Start! Want to find time to exercise? Try this article for inspiration!

When you reach your goal make sure that you enjoy the moment. You have probably worked very hard to get there.

But also make sure that you do not forget the journey. Sometimes the journey can be better than the final reward 🙂
