“Success isn’t always about greatness. It’s about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come.” - Dwayne Johnson

This quote from Dwayne Johnson sums up consistency and its power. Consistency is the backbone of success. But staying consistent is not easy, especially on those days when you might feel like staying in bed! One simple tool can dramatically improve your follow-through: midweek check-ins.

In this post, I’ll explain why midweek check-ins work and how to use them to stay focused and consistent.

Why Consistency Matters

You can’t achieve big goals in one giant leap; you achieve them when you take consistent, small actions that build up over time. But the problem is:

  • Live happens, and it can sometimes force you off your track
  • Without regular reflections, you become distracted, and then the dreaded P word, procrastination, can take over

Consistency can guarantee steady progress, no matter how chaotic your life gets.

How Midweek Check-Ins Help

The great thing about midweek check-ins is that they act as a reset button. This super button, which you can press, can help you in the following three areas.

1) Midweek Check-Ins Help You Stay Focused

It’s a key moment to reflect on what you are doing and see if it is working. You can also see what isn’t working and adjust to be more successful.

2) Regain Momentum

Just because you made a bad decision or did not follow through, it’s not the end of the world. If you feel like you have lost momentum, you can recommit to your goals before the end of the week.

3) Avoid Overwhelm

Feeling overwhelmed is a horrible feeling, and it can put you off working towards goals. You can overcome this feeling by breaking your week into smaller, more manageable chunks. Nobody is saying you have to do everything in one day.

How To Implement Midweek Check-Ins

So how can you implement midweek check-ins in your life? Well, it’s relatively easy. Just look at the graphic above. Keep it simple so it is easier for you to deal with and you will get the most out of it.

1) Set a Midweek Reminder

Accountability can help you achieve this. Pick a day of the week—it could be Wednesday, as in the example above—and set aside 10-15 minutes to reflect on your work and its progress.

2) Ask Yourself Key Questions

Ask yourself three key questions to get the most from this short session.

  1. What have I accomplished so far this week?
  2. What’s holding me back?
  3. What do I need to focus on for the rest of the week?

3) Use a Progress Tracker

You can also use a progress tracker to help you stay accountable. There are so many trackers out there and everybody has their own favourite. I coached somebody this week who uses TickTick, and they found it very useful. I’m going to give it a go as well! I’m going to give it a go as well!

In my accountability coaching programme I offer personalised midweek check-ins via email or text to help my clients stay consistent.
